Professional Background: John Stasny’s career spans a broad field of expertise, allowing him to bring a comprehensive perspective to a mix of litigation, planning, and transactional matters for individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and municipalities. Before joining the legal profession, John led teams of accountants delivering daily share pricing for groups of mutual funds, with several billion dollars in holdings and a wide array of complex securities. After law school, he developed and litigated multimillion dollar lawsuits in state and federal courts around the country involving securities fraud, business torts, breaches of fiduciary duties, and other claims. He later returned to his native state of Texas and shifted much of his attention to criminal trial work.
Over the course of his career, John has tried both civil and criminal cases to the bench and to juries, ranging from lawsuits over business, property, and employment disputes, to high-stakes criminal trials including a capital murder. He has briefed and argued appeals in federal and state courts, on subjects such as constitutional issues, property rights, contract law, and ERISA.
In 2016, John and his wife—drawn to the outdoors and small town life—moved their family to Vermont. He now counsels and advocates for clients in a variety of practice areas covering estate planning and probate administration, employment litigation for both employees and employers, business and real estate transactions, general civil litigation, and other matters. Outside the office, John spends time skiing and exploring with his wife and their five children, strumming the guitar and ukulele, reading novels recommended by his children, and trying to teach himself to play a piano.
Personal Interests: Reading, gardening, the acoustic guitar and exploring the outdoors.
